Yes, you can! SMS contact records have a variety of fields available. You can use these fields to store custom data for dates, text, numbers, and more.
View all SMS fields
- In the Contacts dashboard of your account, click "Configuration from the left menu. Then, slide the Email/SMS toggle to SMS:
- Click the "Configure Fields" tile to open a listing of all SMS contact records fields.
Edit SMS fields
- Hover over a listed field in the Configure Fields page to expose the "Edit" button.
- There you can change the visible field name, set the data format (dates), and store a default value to be merged, if you use merge tags in your SMS campaigns.
SMS segments
All of the data fields are available to use in the segment builder to build segments specific to your SMS contacts. You can also create SMS segments based on tracked behavior of SMS recipients.
Notes
When an email contact record is tied / merged to a SMS contact record, certain fields that are the same on both records cannot be edited. For instance, fields like Name, Zip Code, or Email are found on both records and therefore cannot be edited. The reason is that a change to these fields, that identify a contact in the system, would disassociate the records, so we do not allow editing of those fields.
