Depending on your SMS use, you may want to trigger a SMS message to your contacts based on a date or action taken. Setting up a SMS triggered segment and campaign follows the same process as setting them up for emails.
How-To
- Navigate to the Campaigns Dashboard.
- Click "Create Campaign" at the top-right of the page.
- Name your campaign.
- Choose "SMS" as the Campaign Type. Choose "Triggered" as the sub-type.
- Type your message into the SMS Message box
- Click Save and Next.
- Choose your triggered SMS segment. If you do not have one created yet, click "Create New Segment" and follow the instructions found here. Once you are done you will be redirected back to this campaign page.
- On the Test page, choose your admin to test your trigger to. Mobile numbers can be stored on admin records for this purpose.
- Schedule your triggered SMS campaign on the Schedule tab. The required settings are:
- When do you want to send the campaign? Either keep the campaign unscheduled to keep it in draft or choose the first time you want the campaign to send. If you choose a daily frequency, the campaign will always send at the time of day chosen.
Fill out how far you want the system to check back in time for relevant subscribers. Typically this matches your send frequency (Every day = look one day in the past for recipients). - How frequently do you want the trigger to run? Set your frequency depending on your use case. If you need a feeling of immediacy to your SMS campaign you may want to check every hour (like in the case of a response to an action). If it is a birthday text, you would only need to check once a day or week.
- When the trigger runs, how soon should the recipient receive the SMS message? This also depends on use case. For those triggering off an action they will likely choose immediately (if the message needs immediacy). For those triggering off of a date you may want to send your SMS a few days before or after the date (like a pre-event of post-event text).
- When should the trigger run for the last time? If necessary, you can choose a date to end the campaign. If you do not have one in mind, do not fill this setting in.by choosing the start date and time, how often the trigger should run, the send time in relation to the trigger event, and (optional) when the last send should be.
- When do you want to send the campaign? Either keep the campaign unscheduled to keep it in draft or choose the first time you want the campaign to send. If you choose a daily frequency, the campaign will always send at the time of day chosen.
- Click Save.
