DESCRIPTION:
You may at certain times need to pull a list of all recipients that did not open a campaign.
There are two ways to complete this based on the license you have. Enterprise Licenses can use the Custom Report Builder and Professional and Basic licenses should use segments to pull that data.
CUSTOM REPORT BUILDER HOW TO:
- Go to Analytics
- Choose "Custom Reports" on the left-hand navigation.
- Click "Add Custom Report". Choose 'Contact Report'.
- Open the Select Field drop-down and search for 'Did Not Open'. Select.
- In the Action Clause pop-up box select the campaign you wish to look at plus any date range if applicable (you do not have to select a date range).
- Click Ok.
- Click Run Report towards the bottom of the page.
- You can Save this report, export, or continue editing!
For Professional and Basic users, the most efficient way to check non-openers would be to create a segment.
SEGMENT BUILDER HOW TO:
- Go to Contacts
- Choose Segments on the left-hand side
- Click the Create a Regular Segment button
- Name Your Segment
- Open the Select Field drop-down and search for 'Did Not Open'. Select.
- In the Action Clause pop-up box select the campaign you wish to look at plus any date range if applicable (you do not have to select a date range).
- Click Ok.
- Click Save and Test and it will pull a list of names. Consider saving that segment as a simple "non-openers" for re-use so you can edit it to the campaign you want to see at any time.
Pro-Tip: If you would like to pull additional fields in with your list of emails click the "Advanced Options" on your segment builder page and find the section "Include columns to display". Select any additional items you want to show.
This is the result page. You can see the email address and the First Name (along with Contact ID). You can always export this to excel as well.
AUTOMATION:
If you know ahead of time that you will want to resend your campaign to non-openers AND you are on a Professional or Enterprise license, consider setting the campaign up as an automation journey.
Choose a "Start with Email" automation and use your original campaign as the first email. Choose a Wait for Event or a pause and a flag event and choose "Opened" or "Did Not Open".
