Use our standard Lifetime Engagement scoring to create Segments of contacts who have/have not historically opened, clicked, etc. campaigns sent to them. Below I'll outline two basic examples of engagement segments, not engaged and engaged.
How-To
Go to your Contacts dashboard to begin.
To create a segment of contacts that are not engaged, follow these steps:
- Choose Segments from the left-hand navigation.
- Click the "Create Email Segment" button at the top-left of the page.
- Give your segment a name and a description and select a storage folder (optional).
- Open the Select Field drop-down menu. Scroll to find (or use the search) Lifetime Engagement. Click on the field name to select it for the segment clause.
- You will see that the Lifetime Engagement clause has been inserted into the segment builder. There are three parts: the field name (Lifetime Engagement), the operator (less than, greater than, etc.), and then the value box.
- In the operator box, choose "less than or equal to <=".
- In the value box, enter a 0.
- Click "Save & Test" to see the segment results on-screen.
Go to your Contacts dashboard to begin.
To create a segment of contacts that are engaged, follow the below steps:
- Follow steps 1-5 above (until you get to editing the clause operator).
- In the operator box, this time you will choose "greater than >".
- In the value box, enter a 0.
- Click "Save & Test" to see the segment results on-screen.
Advanced Engagement Scoring
If you are using our Advanced Engagement Scoring feature, you can create similar segments to those outline above. Follow the same processes with modification to the field chosen for the clause. (Choose Advanced Engagement Score (Total) instead).
Notes
- The standard Lifetime Engagement score is not subject to data purge settings, meaning that the score accrues until the subscriber opts out of receiving email, no matter how long they have been on your mailing list and receiving campaigns.
- The lowest possible score is 0.
- Contacts with a 0 score have received campaigns but have never interreacted with them.
- Contacts with no score (not even 0) have never received a campaign.
- If you wish to cap the engagement score clause with a date (for example, contact has not engaged since join date), you can add a date clause to the engagement clause. You can choose whatever date you like, but it's best practice to give contacts 3-12 months to show interest depending on how frequently you send.
- Some of your subscribers may have their tracking preferences set to tracking not allowed. In these instances, we cannot track key behaviors like opens and clicks that are used in lead scoring/engagement scoring systems. You may consider suppressing contacts who have their tracking preference set to False from the campaign for the most accurate audience. There is not a segment clause to identify contacts that have tracking off, to find this, you will need to export your entire contact database. In that export you will see a field named "Tracking". The values are seen as TRUE (allowed)/FALSE (not allowed).
