Hyperlinks are an important part of any email. They allow your recipient to engage further with you by visiting your website or another online location to read more, make a purchase, or more.
You can insert a variety of hyperlink types into your email. In the instructions below, we'll cover the most common. If you are looking for instructions on inserting hyperlinks in the drag-and-drop editor, please visit this article.
How-To
Create a text hyperlink
- Open your template file or campaign in the HTML editor.
- Select the text you would like to turn into a hyperlink.
- Locate the "Insert Hyperlink" button in the toolbar of the HTML Editor.
- Once you select this button the following window will appear:
- Choose what type of link you are inserting into your email design.
(Most often you will use the Hyperlink which will link to either an external URL or content you have created and stored in your media library. If you are linking externally it is best to go to the source, copy and paste the link into the URL input box. If you are choosing from your media library the easy way to do so is to browse for the document with the browse box. You haven’t uploaded your document or image yet? Not to worry, choose the browse button and then upload the information you need). - Link text is what the link will say in the content (i.e. click here to view). Be sure this section is completed in order to make the link visible with text instead of just the link itself. If you leave this line blank you will see that in the content the actual link (i.e. http://www.domain.com) will appear.
- Choose your target. Target is simply how the link will react when clicked on. Will it open in a New Window, Same Window, Parent Window or Browser Window?
- Existing Anchor will not be necessary to fill out if you are simply linking to another piece of content outside of the current content. For more on anchors, please visit our article on inserting anchors.
- "Alt Text" is very important to fill out. When the recipient receives your mailing and the images are not downloaded the Alt Text is what will show in place of the image until the recipient clicks on “Download Images.”
- Choose the color of your hyperlink. The default is usually at random so it will be important in the new Editor to choose your hyperlink color. You can choose specific colors as well if you know the six digit number associated with that color.
- Click "Ok".
Create an image hyperlink
- Upload your image to it's appropriate place in your email design.
- Select the image you just uploaded.
- Once it's inserted into your content, left click the image and click the button 'insert link' on the toolbar above.
- Type in the URL you wish to link to (remember to include http://).
- Click "Ok".
- Don't forget to save your content!
Create an email hyperlink
- Select the text that will become the email address (i.e. email us!).
- Choose the insert hyperlink button in the toolbar.
- Once the box appears you will want to choose the third tab called "E-mail" where you will fill in the input fields with the necessary information: email address, link text and subject line.
- Choose the "Ok" button.
- Don't forget to save your content!
