This article takes you through the different ways to add manually contacts to your database (one-by-one or through a CSV import).
How-To
There are two ways to manually add contacts to your database through the user interface.
Add single contact email address
- Navigate to the 'Contacts' dashboard. The default view is Contacts. Click the "Import Email Contacts" drop-down and choose "Add Single Email Contact".
- Enter the relevant email address and name information in basics. If you wish to store additional information, do so in the Basics and Other Fields tabs. You can also add the new contact to a Category in the "Categories" tab.
- Click "Save" when finished.
Import a file of contact email addresses (CSV)
- Navigate to the 'Contacts' dashboard. Choose the "Import Email Contacts" button in the top-right.
- Click 'Select' to browse to your desktop. Find your .CSV file, click 'OK' to upload. Click 'Next'.
- Map your CSV file columns listed on the left to the database demographics on the right. Click 'Next'.
- Select 'Action', if desired (Import quietly as regular contacts is the default).
-Import quietly as regular contacts: simply adds the emails to your database.
-Import as regular contacts, and send hello: sends the new contacts a hello message.
-Import as unconfirmed contacts, and send confirmation request: sends the new contacts a confirmation message.
-Use type setting in CSV file: add emails as another type, like unsub.
- Select 'Action', if desired (Import quietly as regular contacts is the default).
- Create category: check this box if you wish to create a category of only the contacts in the CSV being imported. Give the new category a name. Decide if the category should expire. If 'yes' is chosen, the category will be removed from your segment dashboard after 30 days of non-use.
- Select Import. You will be taken to the Import History page and should receive a detailed email when you import completes.
Notes
- Contact file imports must be in CSV format.
- Email address is the only required data.
- If you plan to segment by demographic data, be sure that data field (and values) are included in your CSV file.
- You will be emailed an import report when the import process has completed that explains how many contacts were imported, how many contacts failed and other import details.
